About Me
Hi, I'm Victoria Aldea-Smith!
I'm a New York City native living in Bermuda with my little family.
Â
When I got pregnant in 2023 with my daughter, I had very little information about breastfeeding. I knew I wanted to breastfeed, but had NO idea where to start, like so many other moms and families out there.
Â
After reading some books about breastfeeding that I feverishly highlighted and dog-eared, I shared my hopes and plan to exclusively breastfeed our baby with my husband, who was fully on board and supportive. With that knowledge, I felt better prepared. Without it, I simply wouldn’t have had the know-with-all of what to expect. This is where my passion to help others with breastfeeding began.
My Story
During my 25-month breastfeeding journey, I experienced high highs and low lows.
Â
Sleepless nights, cluster feeding, a painful stint of Raynaud’s Syndrome, teething/biting, navigating a pumping schedule when I returned back to work full-time, postpartum anxiety, and more.
Â
With the help of two lactation professionals, I understood the indelible value of their work; assessing latch, weighted feeds to ensure appropriate milk transfer, finding the root cause of breast/nipple pain and discomfort, and simply chatting about how I was feeling.
Â
As a first time mom, I felt heard and seen. Through it all, I persevered and managed to not use any formula, a goal that was extremely important to my family’s feeding plan. Whatever your feeding goals are, I want to help you attain and maintain them.
The Healthy Children Project
Completing my CLC with the Healthy Children Project was an easy decision. Driven by evidence-based research, the organization provides the latest on all things breastfeeding. The 95-hour course plus case studies did more than just prepare me for the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice Lactation counselor examination, it has also made me confident in my scope of practice to service moms, babies and families on their breastfeeding journeys.
